Payday 2 Introduces $5 Subscription for All DLCs While Payday 3 Struggles to Attract Players

The cooperative first-person shooter Payday 2 launched a $5 subscription plan, which includes all available DLCs (over 65), including heists, weapons, and cosmetics, except for certain licensed content related to the John Wick, Point Break, Reservoir Dogs, Scarface, and Hardcore Henry movies.

Launched on Aug. 13, 2013, Payday 2 is playable on Windows and Linux PCs, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Series X|S.

Even 12 years after its launch, the sequel to 2011’s Payday: The Heist, developed by Overkill Software and published by 505 Games, features (as of the time of writing) a 24-hour peak of 31,861 players, according to SteamDB, with an all-time peak of 247,709 users.

Meanwhile, as of the time of writing, its 2023’s sequel Payday 3, developed by Starbreeze Studios and published by Deep Silver, has a much smaller 24-hour peak of only 596 players, according to SteamDB, with an all-time peak of 77,938 users.

Upon launch, the servers of the online-only Payday 3, playable on PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X|S, failed due to a massive influx of players, making the game almost unplayable for days.

Payday 2 has sold over 40 million copies, while Payday 3 failed to meet the publisher’s sales expectations.
