Microsoft to Raise Xbox Series S|X Prices in US

Microsoft announced an upcoming price increase for the Xbox Series X|S in the United States; the announcement was made on Sept. 19. The price increase will be officially implemented on Oct. 3, 2025, with the cheapest variant increasing in price by $20 while the most expensive variant increasing by $70. None of the other products in the market, including controllers and headsets, will receive a price increase.

Here are the previous prices compared to the new listed price:

  • Xbox Series S 512GB
  • Xbox Series S 1TB
  • Xbox Series X Digital
  • Xbox Series X
  • Xbox Series X 2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition

The pricing in countries outside the United States will remain the same; the exact reasoning for hardware price increase was not revealed, but Windows Central sources the ongoing tariff situation affecting the United States and China as a likely cause for the price hitch.

Sony implemented a similar price increase for its PlayStation 5 hardware, effective Aug. 21, 2025, with retail prices for the current generation console remaining unchanged.

The Xbox Series X|S was released in 2020; the current generation sold an estimated 30 million units, according to industry analyst reports. No official sales figures have been revealed.
