On Sept. 23, 2025, a livestream that celebrates the 10th Anniversary of Kojima Productions saw the appearance of John Hank, the founder of Niantic, and now Niantic Spatial. His segment in the stream talked about a “new form of entertainment.”

They then presented a short trailer of what seemed like a futuristic take on augmented reality, with seemingly familiar graphics that can be seen on one of Kojima Productions’ games, Death Stranding. The trailer also showed a few people wearing smart glasses and seeing holographic images of bonsai trees and other gameified elements.

It’s worth noting that Niantic Spatial is different from Niantic, the creators of Pokémon GO. They were one company, but split in March this year after its Scopely purchase. Niantic’s site mentions “we are building a living model of the world that people and machines can talk to.”

The short discussion that followed showed Kojima wanting to take video games beyond the screen and be able to interact with the real world. He said that while he can’t talk much about the project yet, one thing people can imagine is that there will be entertainment even after climbing a mountain.
