The Outer Worlds 2 launches globally, joins Xbox Game Pass on day one
The Outer Worlds 2 joined Microsoft Gaming’s subscription service, Xbox Game Pass, on its global launch day Oct. 29, 2025.
A standalone sequel to 2019’s The Outer Worlds, playable on Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC via the Xbox app, and Xbox Cloud, became available for members of Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass.
Besides the Xbox system, the title developed by Obsidian Entertainment and published by Xbox Game Studios also landed on PlayStation 5 and Windows PC.
Set in the Arcadia star system, The Outer Worlds 2 allows players to assume control over an Earth Directorate agent who is tasked with uncovering the source of emerging rifts that threaten to destroy the colony amid clashing factions of the Protectorate’s militarized utopians, corporate cultists dedicated to Auntie’s Choice, and prophetic scientists from the Order of the Ascendant.
Just like in the first title of the series, in The Outer Worlds 2, players can assemble a team. In the second part of the franchise, players can choose from six characters, each with their own skillset.
As of the time of writing, according to review aggregator Metacritic, the PC version of the title received a Metascore of 81 points based on 35 critic reviews, the PlayStation 5 version received a Metascore of 81 points based on 25 critic reviews, while the Xbox counterpart received a Metascore of 83 points based on 53 critic reviews.
