Animal Crossing: New Horizons Switch 2 Edition to launch with new content

Nintendo officially revealed Animal Crossing: New Horizons Switch 2 Edition, which costs an additional $4.99 to upgrade instead of $9.99. The $9.99 upgrade cost has become the norm for a Switch 2 upgrade. If purchased separately, Animal Crossing: New Horizons Nintendo Switch 2 Edition costs $64.99.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Switch 2 Edition boasts 4k resolution, but has an unchanged 30 fps framerate. The upgraded version, alongside the new content update, is scheduled to release on Jan. 15, 2026.

The Switch 2 version has joycon mouse control support, which can be used to move furniture around, create custom designs, and write custom messages. The upgraded version has a megaphone feature, utilizing the build-in microphone on the Switch 2 hardware.

Launching alongside the Animal Crossing: New Horizons Switch 2 Edition are new content updates for the title, marking the end of a five-year content drought for the game. The upcoming update is for both versions of the game, not just the Switch 2 iteration. A resort hotel is opening on the pier, run by the Kapp’n’s family. The player can help decorate the guest rooms, bring new furniture and clothing to the souvenir shop, and dress up mannequins with outfits that guests can wear.

In addition, the player’s home storage will be able to hold up to 9,000 items. New collaboration items are scheduled as well. Nintendo Switch Online members can select classic Nintendo titles in-game when interacting with specific Nintendo console items, with LEGO items also making their debut. The Legend of Zelda and Splatoon amiibo collaborations to invite certain undisclosed characters and items inspired by the series.
