Amazon to execute significant cuts in video game division as part of sweeping 14,000 layoffs
Amazon is about to execute “significant role reductions” in its video-game division as part of the recently reported sweeping 14,000 layoffs, as reported by Bloomberg on Oct 28, 2025.
While the corporation hasn’t yet officially outlined the exact number of employees that will be laid off, in a Tuesday (Oct 28, 2025) memo reviewed by Bloomberg, Steve Boom, vice president of Audio, Twitch, and Games, outlined that “significant role reductions” would affect its offices in Irvine and San Diego, as well as its central publishing division, as the company is “leaning into the things that Amazon does best.”
The report states that the company will scale back its work on major big-budget projects, especially MMOs.
The news comes on the heels of the announcement that the MMORPG New World: Aeternum, developed and published by Amazon Games, will no longer receive content updates.
